Exodus 23:14-25:40
The Three Annual Festivals
14Â âThree times a year you are to celebrate a festival to me.
15Â âCelebrate the Festival of Unleavened Bread; for seven days eat bread made without yeast, as I commanded you. Do this at the appointed time in the month of Aviv, for in that month you came out of Egypt.
âNo one is to appear before me empty-handed.
16Â âCelebrate the Festival of Harvest with the firstfruits of the crops you sow in your field.
âCelebrate the Festival of Ingathering at the end of the year, when you gather in your crops from the field.
17Â âThree times a year all the men are to appear before the Sovereign Lord.
18Â âDo not offer the blood of a sacrifice to me along with anything containing yeast.
âThe fat of my festival offerings must not be kept until morning.
19Â âBring the best of the firstfruits of your soil to the house of the Lord your God.
âDo not cook a young goat in its motherâs milk.
Godâs Angel to Prepare the Way
20Â âSee, I am sending an angel ahead of you to guard you along the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared. 21Â Pay attention to him and listen to what he says. Do not rebel against him; he will not forgive your rebellion, since my Name is in him. 22Â If you listen carefully to what he says and do all that I say, I will be an enemy to your enemies and will oppose those who oppose you. 23Â My angel will go ahead of you and bring you into the land of the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hivites and Jebusites, and I will wipe them out. 24Â Do not bow down before their gods or worship them or follow their practices. You must demolish them and break their sacred stones to pieces. 25Â Worship the Lord your God, and his blessing will be on your food and water. I will take away sickness from among you, 26Â and none will miscarry or be barren in your land. I will give you a full life span.
27Â âI will send my terror ahead of you and throw into confusion every nation you encounter. I will make all your enemies turn their backs and run. 28Â I will send the hornet ahead of you to drive the Hivites, Canaanites and Hittites out of your way. 29Â But I will not drive them out in a single year, because the land would become desolate and the wild animals too numerous for you. 30Â Little by little I will drive them out before you, until you have increased enough to take possession of the land.
31Â âI will establish your borders from the Red Sea[a] to the Mediterranean Sea,[b] and from the desert to the Euphrates River. I will give into your hands the people who live in the land, and you will drive them out before you. 32Â Do not make a covenant with them or with their gods. 33Â Do not let them live in your land or they will cause you to sin against me, because the worship of their gods will certainly be a snare to you.â
Exodus 24
The Covenant Confirmed
24Â Then the Lord said to Moses, âCome up to the Lord, you and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel. You are to worship at a distance, 2Â but Moses alone is to approach the Lord; the others must not come near. And the people may not come up with him.â
3Â When Moses went and told the people all the Lordâs words and laws, they responded with one voice, âEverything the Lord has said we will do.â 4Â Moses then wrote down everything the Lord had said.
He got up early the next morning and built an altar at the foot of the mountain and set up twelve stone pillars representing the twelve tribes of Israel. 5Â Then he sent young Israelite men, and they offered burnt offerings and sacrificed young bulls as fellowship offerings to the Lord. 6Â Moses took half of the blood and put it in bowls, and the other half he splashed against the altar. 7Â Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it to the people. They responded, âWe will do everything the Lord has said; we will obey.â
8Â Moses then took the blood, sprinkled it on the people and said, âThis is the blood of the covenant that the Lord has made with you in accordance with all these words.â
9Â Moses and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and the seventy elders of Israel went up 10Â and saw the God of Israel. Under his feet was something like a pavement made of lapis lazuli, as bright blue as the sky. 11Â But God did not raise his hand against these leaders of the Israelites; they saw God, and they ate and drank.
12Â The Lord said to Moses, âCome up to me on the mountain and stay here, and I will give you the tablets of stone with the law and commandments I have written for their instruction.â
13Â Then Moses set out with Joshua his aide, and Moses went up on the mountain of God. 14Â He said to the elders, âWait here for us until we come back to you. Aaron and Hur are with you, and anyone involved in a dispute can go to them.â
15Â When Moses went up on the mountain, the cloud covered it, 16Â and the glory of the Lord settled on Mount Sinai. For six days the cloud covered the mountain, and on the seventh day the Lord called to Moses from within the cloud. 17Â To the Israelites the glory of the Lord looked like a consuming fire on top of the mountain. 18Â Then Moses entered the cloud as he went on up the mountain. And he stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights.
Exodus 25
Offerings for the Tabernacle
25Â The Lord said to Moses, 2Â âTell the Israelites to bring me an offering. You are to receive the offering for me from everyone whose heart prompts them to give. 3Â These are the offerings you are to receive from them: gold, silver and bronze; 4Â blue, purple and scarlet yarn and fine linen; goat hair; 5Â ram skins dyed red and another type of durable leather[c]; acacia wood; 6Â olive oil for the light; spices for the anointing oil and for the fragrant incense; 7Â and onyx stones and other gems to be mounted on the ephod and breastpiece.
8Â âThen have them make a sanctuary for me, and I will dwell among them. 9Â Make this tabernacle and all its furnishings exactly like the pattern I will show you.
The Ark
10Â âHave them make an ark[d] of acacia woodâtwo and a half cubits long, a cubit and a half wide, and a cubit and a half high.[e] 11Â Overlay it with pure gold, both inside and out, and make a gold molding around it. 12Â Cast four gold rings for it and fasten them to its four feet, with two rings on one side and two rings on the other. 13Â Then make poles of acacia wood and overlay them with gold. 14Â Insert the poles into the rings on the sides of the ark to carry it. 15Â The poles are to remain in the rings of this ark; they are not to be removed. 16Â Then put in the ark the tablets of the covenant law, which I will give you.
17Â âMake an atonement cover of pure goldâtwo and a half cubits long and a cubit and a half wide. 18Â And make two cherubim out of hammered gold at the ends of the cover. 19Â Make one cherub on one end and the second cherub on the other; make the cherubim of one piece with the cover, at the two ends.20Â The cherubim are to have their wings spread upward, overshadowing the cover with them. The cherubim are to face each other, looking toward the cover.21Â Place the cover on top of the ark and put in the ark the tablets of the covenant law that I will give you. 22Â There, above the cover between the two cherubimthat are over the ark of the covenant law, I will meet with you and give you all my commands for the Israelites.
The Table
23Â âMake a table of acacia woodâtwo cubits long, a cubit wide and a cubit and a half high.[f] 24Â Overlay it with pure gold and make a gold molding around it.25Â Also make around it a rim a handbreadth[g] wide and put a gold molding on the rim. 26Â Make four gold rings for the table and fasten them to the four corners, where the four legs are. 27Â The rings are to be close to the rim to hold the poles used in carrying the table. 28Â Make the poles of acacia wood, overlay them with gold and carry the table with them. 29Â And make its plates and dishes of pure gold, as well as its pitchers and bowls for the pouring out of offerings. 30Â Put the bread of the Presence on this table to be before me at all times.
The Lampstand
31Â âMake a lampstand of pure gold. Hammer out its base and shaft, and make its flowerlike cups, buds and blossoms of one piece with them. 32Â Six branches are to extend from the sides of the lampstandâthree on one side and three on the other. 33Â Three cups shaped like almond flowers with buds and blossoms are to be on one branch, three on the next branch, and the same for all six branches extending from the lampstand. 34Â And on the lampstand there are to be four cups shaped like almond flowers with buds and blossoms. 35Â One bud shall be under the first pair of branches extending from the lampstand, a second bud under the second pair, and a third bud under the third pairâsix branches in all. 36Â The buds and branches shall all be of one piece with the lampstand, hammered out of pure gold.
37Â âThen make its seven lamps and set them up on it so that they light the space in front of it. 38Â Its wick trimmers and trays are to be of pure gold. 39Â A talent[h] of pure gold is to be used for the lampstand and all these accessories. 40Â See that you make them according to the pattern shown you on the mountain.
Matthew 24:29-51
29Â âImmediately after the distress of those days
ââthe sun will be darkened,
    and the moon will not give its light;
the stars will fall from the sky,
    and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.â[a]
30Â âThen will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth[b] will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory.[c] 31Â And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.
32Â âNow learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. 33Â Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it[d] is near, right at the door. 34Â Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened.35Â Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.
The Day and Hour Unknown
36Â âBut about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son,[e] but only the Father. 37Â As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 38Â For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; 39Â and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 40Â Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. 41Â Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left.
42Â âTherefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. 43Â But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. 44Â So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.
45Â âWho then is the faithful and wise servant, whom the master has put in charge of the servants in his household to give them their food at the proper time?46Â It will be good for that servant whose master finds him doing so when he returns. 47Â Truly I tell you, he will put him in charge of all his possessions. 48Â But suppose that servant is wicked and says to himself, âMy master is staying away a long time,â 49Â and he then begins to beat his fellow servants and to eat and drink with drunkards. 50Â The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of. 51Â He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Psalm 30
Psalm 30[a]
A psalm. A song. For the dedication of the temple.[b] Of David.
1Â I will exalt you, Lord,
    for you lifted me out of the depths
    and did not let my enemies gloat over me.
2Â Lord my God, I called to you for help,
    and you healed me.
3Â You, Lord, brought me up from the realm of the dead;
    you spared me from going down to the pit.
4Â Sing the praises of the Lord, you his faithful people;
    praise his holy name.
5Â For his anger lasts only a moment,
    but his favor lasts a lifetime;
weeping may stay for the night,
    but rejoicing comes in the morning.
6Â When I felt secure, I said,
    âI will never be shaken.â
7Â Lord, when you favored me,
    you made my royal mountain[c] stand firm;
but when you hid your face,
    I was dismayed.
8Â To you, Lord, I called;
    to the Lord I cried for mercy:
9Â âWhat is gained if I am silenced,
    if I go down to the pit?
Will the dust praise you?
    Will it proclaim your faithfulness?
10Â Hear, Lord, and be merciful to me;
    Lord, be my help.â
11Â You turned my wailing into dancing;
    you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy,
12Â that my heart may sing your praises and not be silent.
    Lord my God, I will praise you forever.
Proverbs 7:24-27
24Â Now then, my sons, listen to me;
    pay attention to what I say.
25Â Do not let your heart turn to her ways
    or stray into her paths.
26Â Many are the victims she has brought down;
    her slain are a mighty throng.
27Â Her house is a highway to the grave,
    leading down to the chambers of death.
