Exodus 29:1-30:10
Consecration of the Priests
29Â âThis is what you are to do to consecrate them, so they may serve me as priests: Take a young bull and two rams without defect. 2Â And from the finest wheat flour make round loaves without yeast, thick loaves without yeast and with olive oil mixed in, and thin loaves without yeast and brushed with olive oil. 3Â Put them in a basket and present them along with the bull and the two rams. 4Â Then bring Aaron and his sons to the entrance to the tent of meeting and wash them with water. 5Â Take the garments and dress Aaron with the tunic, the robe of the ephod, the ephod itself and the breastpiece. Fasten the ephod on him by its skillfully woven waistband. 6Â Put the turban on his head and attach the sacred emblem to the turban. 7Â Take the anointing oil and anoint him by pouring it on his head. 8Â Bring his sons and dress them in tunics 9Â and fasten caps on them. Then tie sashes on Aaron and his sons.[a] The priesthood is theirs by a lasting ordinance.
âThen you shall ordain Aaron and his sons.
10Â âBring the bull to the front of the tent of meeting, and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands on its head. 11Â Slaughter it in the Lordâs presence at the entrance to the tent of meeting. 12Â Take some of the bullâs blood and put it on the horns of the altar with your finger, and pour out the rest of it at the base of the altar. 13Â Then take all the fat on the internal organs, the long lobe of the liver, and both kidneys with the fat on them, and burn them on the altar. 14Â But burn the bullâs flesh and its hide and its intestines outside the camp. It is a sin offering.[b]
15Â âTake one of the rams, and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands on its head. 16Â Slaughter it and take the blood and splash it against the sides of the altar. 17Â Cut the ram into pieces and wash the internal organs and the legs, putting them with the head and the other pieces. 18Â Then burn the entire ram on the altar. It is a burnt offering to the Lord, a pleasing aroma, a food offering presented to the Lord.
19Â âTake the other ram, and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands on its head. 20Â Slaughter it, take some of its blood and put it on the lobes of the right ears of Aaron and his sons, on the thumbs of their right hands, and on the big toes of their right feet. Then splash blood against the sides of the altar. 21Â And take some blood from the altar and some of the anointing oil and sprinkle it on Aaron and his garments and on his sons and their garments. Then he and his sons and their garments will be consecrated.
22Â âTake from this ram the fat, the fat tail, the fat on the internal organs, the long lobe of the liver, both kidneys with the fat on them, and the right thigh. (This is the ram for the ordination.) 23Â From the basket of bread made without yeast, which is before the Lord, take one round loaf, one thick loaf with olive oil mixed in, and one thin loaf. 24Â Put all these in the hands of Aaron and his sons and have them wave them before the Lord as a wave offering. 25Â Then take them from their hands and burn them on the altar along with the burnt offering for a pleasing aroma to the Lord, a food offering presented to the Lord. 26Â After you take the breast of the ram for Aaronâs ordination, wave it before the Lord as a wave offering, and it will be your share.
27Â âConsecrate those parts of the ordination ram that belong to Aaron and his sons: the breast that was waved and the thigh that was presented. 28Â This is always to be the perpetual share from the Israelites for Aaron and his sons. It is the contribution the Israelites are to make to the Lord from their fellowship offerings.
29Â âAaronâs sacred garments will belong to his descendants so that they can be anointed and ordained in them. 30Â The son who succeeds him as priest and comes to the tent of meeting to minister in the Holy Place is to wear them seven days.
31Â âTake the ram for the ordination and cook the meat in a sacred place. 32Â At the entrance to the tent of meeting, Aaron and his sons are to eat the meat of the ram and the bread that is in the basket. 33Â They are to eat these offerings by which atonement was made for their ordination and consecration. But no one else may eat them, because they are sacred. 34Â And if any of the meat of the ordination ram or any bread is left over till morning, burn it up. It must not be eaten, because it is sacred.
35Â âDo for Aaron and his sons everything I have commanded you, taking seven days to ordain them. 36Â Sacrifice a bull each day as a sin offering to make atonement. Purify the altar by making atonement for it, and anoint it to consecrate it. 37Â For seven days make atonement for the altar and consecrate it. Then the altar will be most holy, and whatever touches it will be holy.
38Â âThis is what you are to offer on the altar regularly each day: two lambs a year old. 39Â Offer one in the morning and the other at twilight. 40Â With the first lamb offer a tenth of an ephah[c] of the finest flour mixed with a quarter of a hin[d] of oil from pressed olives, and a quarter of a hin of wine as a drink offering. 41Â Sacrifice the other lamb at twilight with the same grain offering and its drink offering as in the morningâa pleasing aroma, a food offering presented to the Lord.
42Â âFor the generations to come this burnt offering is to be made regularly at the entrance to the tent of meeting, before the Lord. There I will meet you and speak to you;43Â there also I will meet with the Israelites, and the place will be consecrated by my glory.
44Â âSo I will consecrate the tent of meeting and the altar and will consecrate Aaron and his sons to serve me as priests. 45Â Then I will dwell among the Israelites and be their God.46Â They will know that I am the Lord their God, who brought them out of Egypt so that I might dwell among them. I am the Lord their God.
Exodus 30:1-10
The Altar of Incense
30Â âMake an altar of acacia wood for burning incense. 2Â It is to be square, a cubit long and a cubit wide, and two cubits high[e]âits horns of one piece with it. 3Â Overlay the top and all the sides and the horns with pure gold, and make a gold molding around it. 4Â Make two gold rings for the altar below the moldingâtwo on each of the opposite sidesâto hold the poles used to carry it. 5Â Make the poles of acacia wood and overlay them with gold. 6Â Put the altar in front of the curtain that shields the ark of the covenant lawâbefore the atonement cover that is over the tablets of the covenant lawâwhere I will meet with you.
7Â âAaron must burn fragrant incense on the altar every morning when he tends the lamps. 8Â He must burn incense again when he lights the lamps at twilight so incense will burn regularly before the Lord for the generations to come. 9Â Do not offer on this altar any other incense or any burnt offering or grain offering, and do not pour a drink offering on it.10Â Once a year Aaron shall make atonement on its horns. This annual atonement must be made with the blood of the atoning sin offering[f] for the generations to come. It is most holy to the Lord.â
Matthew 26:14-46
Judas Agrees to Betray Jesus
14Â Then one of the Twelveâthe one called Judas Iscariotâwent to the chief priests 15Â and asked, âWhat are you willing to give me if I deliver him over to you?â So they counted out for him thirty pieces of silver. 16Â From then on Judas watched for an opportunity to hand him over.
The Last Supper
17Â On the first day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread, the disciples came to Jesus and asked, âWhere do you want us to make preparations for you to eat the Passover?â
18Â He replied, âGo into the city to a certain man and tell him, âThe Teacher says: My appointed time is near. I am going to celebrate the Passover with my disciples at your house.ââ19Â So the disciples did as Jesus had directed them and prepared the Passover.
20Â When evening came, Jesus was reclining at the table with the Twelve. 21Â And while they were eating, he said, âTruly I tell you, one of you will betray me.â
22Â They were very sad and began to say to him one after the other, âSurely you donât mean me, Lord?â
23Â Jesus replied, âThe one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me will betray me. 24Â The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him. But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born.â
25Â Then Judas, the one who would betray him, said, âSurely you donât mean me, Rabbi?â
Jesus answered, âYou have said so.â
26Â While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, âTake and eat; this is my body.â
27Â Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, âDrink from it, all of you. 28Â This is my blood of the[a] covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. 29Â I tell you, I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in my Fatherâs kingdom.â
30Â When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
Jesus Predicts Peterâs Denial
31Â Then Jesus told them, âThis very night you will all fall away on account of me, for it is written:
ââI will strike the shepherd,
    and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.â[b]
32Â But after I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee.â
33Â Peter replied, âEven if all fall away on account of you, I never will.â
34Â âTruly I tell you,â Jesus answered, âthis very night, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times.â
35Â But Peter declared, âEven if I have to die with you, I will never disown you.â And all the other disciples said the same.
Gethsemane
36Â Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, âSit here while I go over there and pray.â 37Â He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedeealong with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled. 38Â Then he said to them, âMy soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.â
39Â Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, âMy Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.â
40Â Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. âCouldnât you men keep watch with me for one hour?â he asked Peter. 41Â âWatch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.â
42Â He went away a second time and prayed, âMy Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done.â
43Â When he came back, he again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy. 44Â So he left them and went away once more and prayed the third time, saying the same thing.
45Â Then he returned to the disciples and said to them, âAre you still sleeping and resting? Look, the hour has come, and the Son of Man is delivered into the hands of sinners.46Â Rise! Let us go! Here comes my betrayer!â
Psalm 31:19-24
19Â How abundant are the good things
    that you have stored up for those who fear you,
that you bestow in the sight of all,
    on those who take refuge in you.
20Â In the shelter of your presence you hide them
    from all human intrigues;
you keep them safe in your dwelling
    from accusing tongues.
21Â Praise be to the Lord,
    for he showed me the wonders of his love
    when I was in a city under siege.
22Â In my alarm I said,
    âI am cut off from your sight!â
Yet you heard my cry for mercy
    when I called to you for help.
23Â Love the Lord, all his faithful people!
    The Lord preserves those who are true to him,
    but the proud he pays back in full.
24Â Be strong and take heart,
    all you who hope in the Lord.
Proverbs 8:14-26
14Â Counsel and sound judgment are mine;
    I have insight, I have power.
15Â By me kings reign
    and rulers issue decrees that are just;
16Â by me princes govern,
    and noblesâall who rule on earth.[a]
17Â I love those who love me,
    and those who seek me find me.
18Â With me are riches and honor,
    enduring wealth and prosperity.
19Â My fruit is better than fine gold;
    what I yield surpasses choice silver.
20Â I walk in the way of righteousness,
    along the paths of justice,
21Â bestowing a rich inheritance on those who love me
    and making their treasuries full.
22Â âThe Lord brought me forth as the first of his works,[b][c]
    before his deeds of old;
23Â I was formed long ages ago,
    at the very beginning, when the world came to be.
24Â When there were no watery depths, I was given birth,
    when there were no springs overflowing with water;
25Â before the mountains were settled in place,
    before the hills, I was given birth,
26Â before he made the world or its fields
    or any of the dust of the earth.
