Is it just me, or is the world engulfed in a whirlwind of turmoil? Every day, the headlines bring news of another crisis, disaster, potential pandemic or event that shakes the very foundations of our lives. The weight of these global issues bears heavily on our minds and hearts, leaving us yearning for some semblance of peace, for a refuge where we can find solace and strength.
As I look around at the events unfolding across the globe, I can't help but recall the words of Jesus in Matthew 24. In this chapter, Jesus speaks of the signs of the end times—events that would signal His return and the culmination of history. The parallels between the prophecies in Matthew 24 and other scriptures and what we are witnessing today are striking and unsettling. Using a quote from Pastor Paul Begley, Paul states, "Technology has finally caught up to Prophecy," which clearly defines the days we are living, a time where End time prophecy is occurring right before us.

Unveiling the Spiritual Decline: From Olympic Controversies to Hidden Rituals, the Growing Moral Decay and Global Unrest Reflect a World in Crisis
In recent months, we've witnessed a disturbing moral decay, particularly evident in the aftermath of the global Paris Olympic Games. The ideals of unity and sportsmanship have given way to controversies and scandals that reflect a broader erosion of societal, ethical standards. The ceremonies and symbolism displayed during the Olympics, including mockeries of sacred Christian events like the Last Supper, the presence of Baal idols, and depictions of sexual immorality, have caused many to question the spiritual direction in which our world is headed. Global Instability and Emerging Health Crises: A Stark Reminder of the Fragile State of the World and the Fulfillment of Prophetic Warnings
Assassination attempts on world leaders and influential figures have added to the sense of instability, highlighting the dangers faced by those who stand in the public eye. Political conventions, once a forum for the exchange of ideas and the shaping of national policies, have become battlegrounds of division and hostility, where the focus is more on power struggles than on the well-being of the people. Signs of the Times: Geopolitical Unrest, Natural Disasters, Technological Control, and the Decline of Christianity Align with Prophetic Warnings
Let's consider some of the events currently shaping our world that seem to align with the warnings given to us in Daniel 7, Matthew 24, Revelation 13, and Revelation 17 :
Geopolitical Conflicts: Jesus mentioned wars and rumors of wars as signs of the end times. Today, we see escalating tensions and conflicts in various regions, particularly in Ukraine, Israel, and the broader Middle East. These conflicts involve the nations directly engaged and draw in the global community, creating a sense of unease and instability. The potential for these conflicts to expand and draw in more nations is a constant source of concern, aligning with Jesus' warning of a nation rising against the country.
Natural Disasters: In Matthew 24, Jesus spoke of earthquakes in various places and other natural disasters. The frequency and intensity of such events have indeed increased in recent years. From devastating wildfires in Australia and California to catastrophic floods in Europe and Asia, the world is witnessing unprecedented levels of environmental destruction. These disasters cause immense suffering and serve as a stark reminder of the fragility of our planet, echoing the warnings of upheaval in the natural world.
Pestilences and Health Crises: Jesus also mentioned pestilences as part of the end times. The COVID-19 pandemic, which has affected every corner of the globe, serves as a sobering reminder of how vulnerable we are to such crises. Even as the world begins to emerge from the worst of the pandemic, new variants and other potential health threats, such as the Monkeypox outbreak, loom on the horizon, keeping the world in a state of alert and anxiety.
Widespread Deception and Lawlessness: Jesus warned that false prophets would lead many astray and that lawlessness would increase. Today, misinformation and deception spread rapidly through digital media, leading to confusion, division, and unrest. We also see a rise in lawlessness as societal norms break down and crime rates increase in many parts of the world. This erosion of truth and order is a troubling sign that aligns with the prophecies in Matthew 24.
Persecution and Trials for Believers: In Matthew 24, Jesus spoke of persecution, betrayal, and hatred towards His followers. Around the world, Christians and other religious minorities face increasing persecution, with their faith often making them targets of violence, discrimination, and oppression. The rise of intolerance towards those who hold to traditional moral and religious values is another indicator of the challenging times we are living in.
The Rise of AI and Big Brother's March Toward Total Control: In addition to the more visible global conflicts and crises, a quieter but equally significant revolution is taking place in the realm of technology. The rapid rise of artificial intelligence (AI) and the increasing capabilities of surveillance technologies have brought us closer than ever to a "Big Brother" scenario, where every aspect of our lives is monitored, analyzed, and controlled. AI is transforming industries and economies and being used to consolidate power in the hands of a few, paving the way for a totalitarian New World Order. Governments and corporations are deploying AI to track individuals' movements, communications, and even thoughts, raising serious concerns about privacy, freedom, and the future of humanity. The integration of AI into daily life, coupled with the growing influence of global surveillance networks, suggests that we are on the brink of a society where dissent is quickly quashed and individual autonomy is a relic of the past.
FED NOW and the Final Stages of the WEF's Push for a Cashless Society: The financial world is undergoing a dramatic transformation that could fundamentally alter how we live and interact. The introduction of FED NOW, the Federal Reserve's real-time payment and settlement system, marks a significant step toward a cashless society, a goal long pursued by the World Economic Forum (WEF). This system, coupled with the growing push for digital currencies and the phasing out of physical cash, brings us closer to a world where every transaction can be tracked and controlled. The move toward a cashless society is often touted as a means of convenience and security. Still, it also represents a shift toward centralized financial power and the potential for unprecedented control over individual economic activities. As these developments unfold, the prospect of losing financial autonomy becomes more accurate, aligning with the broader agenda of the New World Order to exert control over every aspect of human life.
The Decline of Christianity and the Shifting Religious Landscape: The decline of Christianity in the Western world has become increasingly evident, as highlighted by the January 2024 Lifeway Research study. The study reveals a significant drop in church attendance, religious affiliation, and the influence of Christian beliefs on public life here in America. This trend is particularly pronounced among younger generations, who increasingly turn away from traditional spiritual practices and embrace secularism or alternative spiritualities. The study also notes a growing apathy towards faith and a rise in the "nones" who identify with no religious tradition. This decline is not just a matter of dwindling numbers but also reflects a broader cultural shift away from the values and teachings that have long shaped society. As Christianity's influence wanes, we see a corresponding rise in moral relativism and the erosion of foundational ethical principles, contributing to our spiritual and moral challenges today.

The signs that Jesus spoke of are manifesting before our eyes, leading many to wonder if we are approaching the end of the age. In the face of such overwhelming challenges, feeling lost, anxious, and even hopeless is easy. The world is unraveling at the seams, and we, as individuals, often find ourselves powerless to effect meaningful change.
Yet, in times like these, we are reminded of our deep need for something greater than ourselves, for a source of hope and strength that transcends the chaos around us. This is where the words of Psalm 43 can bring comfort and guidance. Written thousands of years ago, this Psalm resonates with the same feelings of distress and longing that we experience today. It is a cry for deliverance, a plea for God's presence amid turmoil. As we walk through each verse of this Psalm, let us explore how it speaks to our current situation and our desperate need for God's intervention.
From Despair to Hope: Finding Strength and Guidance in Psalm 43 Amidst Global Chaos
Before we begin, here is a little background on this Psalm: The authorship of the Psalm is not explicitly stated in the text itself. However, it is commonly believed that Psalm 43 was written by the same author as Psalm 42, attributed to the sons of Korah, a group of temple musicians in ancient Israel.
Psalm 43:1
Vindicate me, my God, and plead my cause against an unfaithful nation. Rescue me from those who are deceitful and wicked.
The psalmist begins with a cry for vindication and rescue. This verse captures the essence of our struggle in a world where deceit and wickedness often seem to prevail. Lies usually obscure truth, and justice is frequently delayed or denied. Whether it's the corruption within political systems, the manipulation of information, or the injustices inflicted on vulnerable populations, we can relate to the psalmist's plea for God's intervention.
In our lives, we may feel the sting of betrayal, the frustration of being misled, or the pain of witnessing wrongdoing. This verse reminds us that we can turn to God as our ultimate advocate, the one who sees beyond the surface and knows the true intentions of every heart. When the world seems to be against us, we can trust that God will plead our cause and deliver us from the clutches of evil.
Psalm 43:2
You are God my stronghold. Why have you rejected me? Why must I go about mourning, oppressed by the enemy?
This verse speaks to the deep sense of abandonment that can accompany times of trial. The psalmist feels rejected by God, left to mourn and suffer under the oppression of enemies. How often do we, too, feel as though God is distant in our moments of greatest need? The weight of the world's troubles can lead us to question God's presence, wondering why He allows such suffering to persist.
Yet, even in this questioning, there is an acknowledgment of God as a stronghold—a mighty fortress of protection, our strong tower in time of need. The psalmist's lament is not an indication of lost faith but rather an honest expression of the struggle to reconcile God's power with the reality of pain. In our lives, we may find comfort in knowing that it is okay to bring our doubts and fears to God, trusting that He is still our refuge, even when we cannot feel His presence.
Psalm 43:3
Send me your light and your faithful care, let them lead me; let them bring me to your holy mountain, to the place where you dwell
Amidst the darkness of despair, the psalmist seeks God's light and faithful care as a guide. This verse is a beautiful reminder that no matter how lost we may feel, God is always ready to lead us back to Him. In a world of confusion and uncertainty, we need God's light to illuminate our path and His faithful care to sustain us.
The "holy mountain" and "the place where you dwell" symbolize God's presence—a place of peace, safety, and communion with the Divine. As we navigate the challenges of our time, we can ask God to guide us with His wisdom and love, leading us away from the world's chaos and into His sanctuary of peace.
Psalm 43:4
Then I will go to the altar of God, to God, my joy and my delight. I will praise you with the lyre, O God, my God.
This verse shifts the focus from lament to worship. The psalmist anticipates the joy and delight of being in God's presence. Despite the trials and tribulations, there is an unwavering hope that God will restore joy and give reason to praise.
Worship can be a powerful act of defiance against the despair that seeks to consume us. When we praise God, even amid our struggles, we affirm our belief that He is more significant than any circumstance. The psalmist's resolve to go to the altar of God and offer praise serves as a model for us—to seek out moments of worship and gratitude, even when life is hard. In these moments, we find our strength renewed and our perspective realigned with God's truth.
Psalm 43:5
Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will praise him, my Savior and God.
The Psalm concludes with a profound statement of hope. The psalmist addresses his soul, recognizing the inner turmoil and calling himself to remember where true hope lies. This verse encapsulates the entire journey of the Psalm—from despair to trust, from questioning to confident hope in God.
In our lives today, this verse is a powerful reminder to hold on to hope, even when everything around us seems bleak. Our challenges may be daunting, but they are not the final word. Our hope is in God, our Savior and source of life. When our souls are downcast, we can turn to this verse and speak truth to ourselves: God is still in control, and He will bring us through the storm.
Finding Refuge in God: Embracing Psalm 43 as a Beacon of Hope and Strength in Turbulent Times
As we reflect on Psalm 43 in our current world, it becomes clear how much we need God. The turmoil and chaos surrounding us are beyond our ability to comprehend or control fully. The magnitude of the problems we face often leaves us feeling vulnerable, anxious, and overwhelmed.
Yet, Psalm 43 reminds us that we are not alone. We have a God who is our stronghold and guide, who hears our cries for help and responds with light and faithful care. Amid a world that seems to unravel, we are invited to place our hope in the unchanging One, our Savior and our God.
May we, like the psalmist, find the courage to seek God's presence in our lives, to bring our fears and doubts before Him, and to trust that He will lead us to a place of peace and joy. In doing so, we will discover that, even in the most turbulent times, God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in times of trouble.

Wheelon, a retired GG-14, held distinguished roles in security, counterintelligence, and special program oversight at the Special Access Programs Division, Headquarters Air Force Space Command, Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado Springs, Colorado. Previously, as a Senior Master Sergeant (SMSgt) in the Air, Space, and Cyber Directorate, Space Superiority Division, he supervised Counterspace Operations at Peterson Air Force Base.
