The Bible strongly condemns mocking God. Galatians 6:7 states,

"Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows."

The Super Bowl, the annual championship game of the National Football League (NFL), has grown into a massive cultural event, transcending the boundaries of sport to become a symbol of American extravagance and excess. The halftime shows, in particular, have been sites of controversy and debate, often reflecting societal values and, at times, mockery of sacred Christian beliefs.

The Super Bowl has become synonymous with commercialism, where advertisements often overshadow the game itself, costing millions of dollars per second. This blatant commercialization can be seen as a form of idolatry, where consumerism is placed above all else, mocking the biblical principle that warns against serving both God and money (Matthew 6:24). Halftime shows at the Super Bowl have frequently been controversial, sometimes including performances that many consider blasphemous. For example, in 2012, Madonna's halftime show featured imagery and symbolism that some interpreted as mocking Christianity, such as the use of religious iconography in a performance that was anything but sacred. Similarly, in 2015, Katy Perry's halftime show included her dramatic entrance riding a mechanical beast, which some interpreted as an allusion to the beast in the Book of Revelation. This can be seen as an insult to the Christian depiction of the end times and the divine judgment described in Revelation 13:1-18.

These instances reflect the cultural trend of desacralization and challenge traditional religious values, echoing the biblical warning in Galatians 6:7 that God cannot be mocked without consequence. This underscores the urgent need for wisdom and faith in addressing the challenges posed by the mockery of the divine in modern cultural and ceremonial events.

Bohemian Grove: The Secret Ceremonies and Their Challenge to Christian Fait

Just this week, there's been a flurry of events that show that things are active in the Spiritual Realm and that we, as Christians, must be on guard at all times and make a stand for our faith.  The first location is the secluded retreat in Northern California called the Bohemian Grove. It is famous for its annual gatherings of some of the world's most powerful men. These events, shrouded in secrecy, have sparked numerous conspiracy theories and criticisms, particularly regarding their pagan ceremonies and alleged mockery of Christian beliefs. This year's gathering drew heightened scrutiny and controversy. The traditional "Cremation of Care" ceremony was as elaborate as ever, involving a dramatic production with pyrotechnics and haunting chants. This underscores the importance of vigilance and the need to take a stand for our faith in the face of such events.

The ritual, meant to symbolize the casting away of worldly concerns, featured the burning of an effigy named "Care" before a giant owl statue, representing the ancient deity Moloch. Moloch, also known as Molech, was an ancient Canaanite deity associated with child sacrifice. Leviticus 18:21 condemns child sacrifice, stating, "Do not allow any of your children to be offered to Molech." Critics argue that this ceremony mocks Christian values and principles, emphasizing a disregard for spiritual accountability and compassion.

The secrecy of Bohemian Grove has led to numerous attempts to uncover its mysteries. In 2000, controversial radio host Alex Jones infiltrated the retreat and recorded footage of the "Cremation of Care" ceremony. The grainy, night-vision footage showed hooded figures performing the ritual, which many interpreted as resembling a satanic ritual. The sight of influential figures partaking in what appeared to be occult practices shocked the public. It fueled conspiracy theories about the true nature of Bohemian Grove.

The infiltrators captured high-definition footage showing hooded figures chanting and invoking fire to come forth as part of the ritual. The footage depicted a dramatic scene where participants, clad in dark robes, gathered around the effigy of "Care" and called for the "fire to come forth" ceremoniously and eerie. This vivid portrayal further fueled suspicions and criticisms that the rituals at Bohemian Grove mock traditional Christian practices and align with occult symbolism.

The Bible explicitly condemns idolatry and pagan practices. In Deuteronomy 12:31, it is stated, "You must not worship the Lord your God in their way, because in worshiping their gods, they do all kinds of detestable things the Lord hates." The practices at Bohemian Grove can be seen as a modern reflection of this warning, mocking the divine principles in Scripture. The very secrecy of Bohemian Grove adds to its aura of blasphemy. In a world where transparency is often equated with morality, the clandestine nature of these gatherings, attended by political and business elites, suggests a hidden agenda that goes against the values of openness and accountability many religious traditions uphold. This secrecy can be viewed as mocking the divine call for truth and transparency, as emphasized in Ephesians 5:11-12, which urges believers to "have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them."

The 2024 Paris Olympics: A Collision of Secular Celebrations and Sacred Symbols

Lastly, the Olympic Games, a worldwide event celebrating human athletic achievement, have also been arenas where the sacred and secular collide. This year's Olympics, held in Paris, continued this tradition, raising questions about the place of religion in such grand spectacles. The opening ceremonies of the Olympics are renowned for their elaborate performances that often incorporate themes from the host country's culture and history. The Paris Olympics included elements that some viewed as secular and pagan. The use of ancient Greek themes, while honoring the origins of the Olympics, also brought forth imagery that could be seen as a nod to pre-Christian religious practices. This blending of ancient and modern, sacred and secular, can be interpreted as a subtle mockery of Christian spiritual traditions.

One particularly controversial segment of the opening ceremony featured a reenactment of the Last Supper. Still, with a modern twist: it was presented by drag queens. This portrayal was seen by many as a direct mockery of one of Christianity's most sacred events. The depiction of the Last Supper in this manner sparked outrage among religious communities, who viewed it as a blasphemous act that disrespected the sacredness of their faith. Additionally, the ceremony invoked the names of ancient Greek gods, such as Zeus and Apollo. These invocations were intended to pay homage to the historical roots of the Olympic Games in ancient Greece. However, for many, this act represented a stark juxtaposition of pagan worship with a modern event, challenging the monotheistic values held by many spectators. Some saw the call to these deities as an attempt to revive and celebrate ancient paganism, which directly opposes the worship of the one true God, as outlined in the Bible.

The ceremony also featured a prominent statue of Nike, the Greek goddess of victory, which stood as a central piece during the opening acts. This symbol of victory, while historically relevant, further highlighted the pagan undertones of the event. The presence of such pagan symbols amidst a global celebration can be interpreted as a broader cultural shift towards secularism and a departure from traditional monotheistic worship. The Bible emphasizes the importance of treating sacred events and symbols with reverence. In 1 Corinthians 11:27, Paul warns, "So then, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord." This warning underscores the gravity of mocking sacred events, reflecting the offense many took at the Olympic ceremony's portrayal of the Last Supper.

Another surprising and memorable moment caught viewers' attention were the three apparent French lovers engaged in what has been best described as a "ménage à trois." The scene featured three people adorned in colorful outfits running up a staircase together, briefly embracing, and then heading into a bedroom. While some viewers found it fresh and intriguing, others were left explaining the concept to their children.

Finally, the large image of the Golden Calf was seen placed next to the Olympic rings. This is the Symbol of Ba'al. Ba'al was an ancient Canaanite deity associated with fertility. His worship centered around ensuring abundant crops, fertility for humans and animals, and the cycles of seven years. Baal's mythology includes struggles with other gods, such as Mot (the God of death) and Yamm (the sea god).

"Our subject was not to be subversive. We never wanted to be subversive. We wanted to talk about diversity. Diversity means being together," said Jolly. "In France, we are a republic; we have the right to love whom we want, we have the right not to be worshippers, we have a lot of rights in France, and this is what I wanted to convey," he added.

Imagine the City of Lights, Paris, plunged into darkness during the Olympics. That's precisely what happened, as a massive power outage struck the city, causing chaos and disruption to daily life.
