Foretold in Scripture: The Destruction and Rebirth of Israel
Did you know that long before any of it happened, Bible prophecy foretold both the destruction of Jerusalem and the Holy Temple in 70 A.D., and the miraculous rebirth of the sovereign state of Israel on May 14, 1948? This dramatic and astonishing story is one that you need to hear.
The Tragedy of 70 A.D.
Let's begin with the bad news. In the year 70 A.D., tragedy struck the Jewish people. The Roman army, led by Titus, who would later become Emperor, besieged and sacked Jerusalem. They destroyed the temple, burned most of the city to the ground, and carried the temple treasures back to Rome. It was a grisly end to what became known as the First Jewish Revolt.
Then came 135 A.D. and the Second Jewish Revolt, led by Simeon Bar Kokhba, whom many Jews hoped was their Messiah. But this rebellion, too, was crushed by the Romans, who slaughtered more than one million Jews. Most of the remaining Jewish population fled the land of Israel, which the Romans called Palestine, and were dispersed around the world. In this diaspora, the Jewish people lived in exile for the next 1900 years.

Prophecy Fulfilled: The Destruction Foretold
As painful as these events were, they were a fulfillment of prophecy. In Matthew 23, Jesus (known as Yeshua in Hebrew) warned His disciples with great sadness:
"Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, the way a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were unwilling. Behold, your house is being left to you desolate! For I say to you, from now on you will not see Me until you say, 'Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!'"
— Matthew 23:37-39
In Matthew 24, Jesus further predicted the destruction:
"Do you not see all these things? Truly I say to you, not one stone here will be left upon another, which will not be torn down."
— Matthew 24:2
This was not guesswork; this was prophecy, and it came to pass exactly as Yeshua foretold.

Prophecy of Hope: The Rebirth of Israel
But Yeshua and the Hebrew prophets did not just prophesy judgment and destruction. Here's the good news: they also spoke of God's great mercy towards the Jewish people. Prophets like Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel foretold that one day the Lord would regather the Jewish people from exile, bring them back to the promised land, help them rebuild their country and capital, Jerusalem, and miraculously resurrect the sovereign state of Israel from the ashes.
Ezekiel's Vision: The Valley of Dry Bones
Among the most famous and detailed of these encouraging prophecies is found in the book of Ezekiel, who was a Hebrew prophet living in exile in Babylon over 2500 years ago. The Lord appointed Ezekiel as a watchman to carefully listen to His voice, watch geopolitical and spiritual events, and warn the nation of Israel when there was danger ahead. But the Lord also gave Ezekiel visions of a future in which the geopolitical state of Israel would be raised from the dead.
Ezekiel 37 describes a vivid vision known as the Valley of Dry Bones:
"The hand of the Lord was upon me, and He brought me out by the Spirit of the Lord and set me down in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones. He caused me to pass among them round about, and behold, there were very many on the surface of the valley, and lo, they were very dry. He said to me, 'Son of man, can these bones live?' And I answered, 'O Lord God, You know.' Again He said to me, 'Prophesy over these bones and say to them, "O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord." Thus says the Lord God to these bones, "Behold, I will cause breath to enter you that you may come to life. I will put sinews on you, make flesh grow back on you, cover you with skin and put breath in you that you may come alive; and you will know that I am the Lord."'
So I prophesied as I was commanded; and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and behold, a rattling; and the bones came together, bone to its bone. And I looked, and behold, sinews were on them, and flesh grew and skin covered them; but there was no breath in them. Then He said to me, 'Prophesy to the breath, prophesy, son of man, and say to the breath, "Thus says the Lord God, 'Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe on these slain, that they come to life.'"' So I prophesied as He commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they came to life and stood on their feet, an exceedingly great army.
Then He said to me, 'Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel; behold, they say, "Our bones are dried up and our hope has perished. We are completely cut off." Therefore prophesy and say to them, "Thus says the Lord God, 'Behold, I will open your graves and cause you to come up out of your graves, My people; and I will bring you into the land of Israel. Then you will know that I am the Lord, when I have opened your graves and caused you to come up out of your graves, My people. I will put My Spirit within you and you will come to life, and I will place you on your own land. Then you will know that I, the Lord, have spoken and done it,' declares the Lord."'
— Ezekiel 37:1-14
The Miraculous Rebirth of Israel
Ezekiel's vision is a vivid word picture describing a gradual process in which God takes a people who feel dead and buried, with little or no hope of redemption, and fashions them into a great nation once again. From the massacres of Tsarist Russia's pogroms to the Holocaust's death camps and the murder of six million Jews, to the oppression of Jews in the Soviet Union, the prospects of the Jewish people in the 20th century could not have been more bleak. Yet, when all hope seemed lost, God kept His word.
Prophecies came true as God opened up the graves and brought His people out—many just skin and bones—out of Europe and exile, and back to the land of their forefathers. Against all odds, David Ben-Gurion declared Israel's independence on May 14, 1948. Despite the onslaught of five Arab armies seeking to annihilate the newly-formed state, Israel prevailed.

The Proof of Prophecy
Today, the state of Israel lives. The millions of Jews who have returned from exile to settle here and become citizens are a testament to God's miraculous work. Seventy-five years ago, Ezekiel's vision came to pass. The prophetic rebuilding of Israel is not over; not every element of these prophecies has yet been fulfilled. There is much more to come, but think of just how extraordinary this really is.
These powerful end-times prophecies have come to pass in our lifetime. Indeed, the very existence of Israel and the return of the Jews to the Holy Land after centuries of exile is the single greatest proof of the existence of God, the reliability of Scripture, and the power of Bible prophecy. The Bible is the only book on the planet that told us for more than 2,000 years that all this would happen, and it did. Was it a guess? No, it was God. And that, my friend, is the purpose and power of Bible prophecy.
America's Support for Israel
The Bible also emphasizes the importance of blessing Israel. Genesis 12:3 states:
"I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you."
This scripture highlights the significance of supporting Israel. America, as Israel's biggest ally, plays a crucial role in standing with Israel, especially in times of conflict with groups like Hamas and threats from countries such as Iran. By supporting Israel, America aligns with the biblical promise of blessing those who bless Israel.
Psalm 122:6 further encourages this support:
"Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: 'May those who love you be secure.'"
America's unwavering support for Israel not only fulfills a biblical mandate but also ensures a continued blessing for the nation. As we stand with Israel, we uphold the promise of mutual blessing and protection, affirming our commitment to a lasting and prosperous relationship.

Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You with hearts full of awe and gratitude for the astonishing fulfillment of Your prophetic Word. Your faithfulness endures through all generations, and we have witnessed this in the destruction and miraculous rebirth of Israel. Just as You foretold through Your prophets, You have regathered Your people, breathed new life into the dry bones, and restored the land of Israel from the ashes.
Lord, we thank You for the miracle of Israel's rebirth, a living testimony of Your promises and a beacon of hope for all who believe. We praise You for the perseverance and strength You have bestowed upon the Jewish people, bringing them home from every corner of the earth.
We pray for the peace of Jerusalem, as Your Word commands us to do. May Your divine protection cover Israel, guarding it against all threats and adversities. Bless those who bless Israel, and let Your favor rest upon the nations that stand in support of Your chosen people.
Grant wisdom and courage to the leaders of Israel and its allies, especially the United States, that they may seek justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with You. Strengthen the bond between our nations, and let us be unwavering in our support for Israel, knowing that as we bless Israel, You will also bless us.
Lord, continue to fulfill Your prophecies and reveal Your glory through the events that unfold. Let the world see that You are the sovereign God, faithful to Your Word and powerful in Your deeds. May many come to know You through the evidence of Your hand at work in Israel.
In the name of Yeshua, our Messiah, we pray.
Amen.
