Is France Showing America Its Possible Future?
Could the political unrest shaking France offer a warning about America’s future?
As I examine the demonstrations and rioting in France involving hundreds of thousands of people, I see troubling parallels with challenges facing the United States—from immigration to public safety to economic pressures and declining trust in government.
In our recent Revelation Watchers investigations, Europe in Turmoil: France Burns, Italy Erupts, and Trump’s Warnings Raise Questions About America’s Future and The Two Faces of France: Christian Revival, Revolutionary Unrest, and the Battle for Europe’s Spiritual Future, we examined the growing contrast between political upheaval and renewed expressions of Christian faith across Europe.
But beneath the demonstrations lies a deeper question: Are organized political movements exploiting legitimate public frustration to advance broader ideological agendas? Could similar forces intensify America’s divisions?
President Trump just told the crowd at one of his rallies that when they see “burning steeples and raging fires in France,” they should remember that “is what the radical Democrats want to do to America.”
In light of this, what can history and Bible prophecy reveal about the warning signs America should not ignore at this time?
Who Is Behind France’s Protests? Following the Political Networks
An October 9 Fox News Digital investigation by Asra Q. Nomani identified 50 organizations connected to France’s student protest movement and its broader network of supporters, including labor unions, political parties, socialist and communist groups, and advocacy organizations. An October 19 follow-up expanded the count to 54 organizations, including 16 student or youth groups.
The reporting also examined international activist-media networks, including BreakThrough News and its reported financial connections to businessman Neville Roy Singham. Reuters separately reported widespread demonstrations across France on October 17, with many participating peacefully while violence erupted in some locations.
These reports raise important questions about political coordination, funding, and whether organized movements may be seeking to capitalize on legitimate public frustration. Who finances these networks, and who benefits when instability escalates?
Following the money requires following the evidence—and distinguishing legitimate protest from unlawful violence.
Some contemporary prophetic voices have described this as a season when hidden corruption and deception may be exposed. Such interpretations require discernment, but Luke 8:17 (KJV) reminds us:
“For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not be known and come abroad.”
As a Christian journalist, I pray that truth will prevail, wrongdoing will be exposed, and justice will be served. Our responsibility is to follow the evidence while trusting God to bring truth into the light.

Marco Rubio’s Warning: The Future of Western Civilization
Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s October 7 address in Athens offered a historical perspective on the West’s future. Speaking at the Pnyx near the Acropolis, Rubio reflected on the inheritance of ancient Greece, Rome, Christianity, and America’s founding traditions:
“The thumos, as the ancient Greeks called it – the fire of passion, strength, courage, pride – is the heart of great civilization. And without it? Without it, nations lose their will to fight, the will to strive, the will to survive.
Today, too much of the West has forgotten this quality. Over time, we in the West came to feel ashamed of the very things that made us exceptional. We felt embarrassed that our achievements set us apart from the rest of the world. Our prosperity somehow became a source of guilt. We no longer believed we deserved and had earned our greatness.
The word “nationalism” became a dirty word. And so we tore down our monuments; we condemned our own history. And in too many places, we taught our children to be ashamed of the countries they would inherit. In the process, we opened our borders and outsourced our industry, and allowed our militaries to wither and to decay.
And with every passing year, we seemed to outsource more of our sovereignty, transferring our decisions to global bureaucracies far beyond the reach of our control.
But others were all too happy to fill the vacuum that we left – the vacuum left behind by our weakness. And as the West’s confidence faltered, its adversaries and its rivals only grew more assertive, building up their own wealth and their own power in our stead.
And now, today, we find ourselves at a crossroads. Because the next decade and the decisions we make will write the story of the next century. The course we take will determine whether the West maintains its place at the head of the world or resigns itself to a future of atrophy and servitude and decline. We will either choose to act now or lose the choice to act at all.”
His remarks raise a profound question: Can Western civilization preserve its liberties while losing confidence in the principles that sustain them?
Political institutions and economic strength matter, but freedom also depends on moral responsibility, civic virtue, and respect for human dignity. For Christians, lasting renewal begins with transformed hearts, as Romans 12:2 teaches through its call to the renewing of the mind.
Romans 12:2 says: “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
Two Revolutions, Two Legacies: Schiller, Faith, and the Price of Freedom
For me, the struggle between liberty and tyranny carries a deeply personal connection. My grandmother, Trella Schiller, encouraged me as a young boy to follow in the footsteps of our family’s celebrated literary forebear, the German poet, playwright, and philosopher Friedrich von Schiller.
His revolutionary drama The Robbers, first performed in 1782, challenged abuses of authority and established his reputation as a powerful voice for freedom and human dignity. In 1792, France’s revolutionary government honored Schiller with French citizenship. Yet Schiller later recoiled from the revolution’s violence as France descended into the Reign of Terror, when thousands were executed by guillotine or killed amid political persecution.
The contrast with America’s founding offers a powerful lesson.
The American Revolution drew upon Enlightenment ideals, natural rights, and religious traditions that helped shape the new republic. George Washington advocated humane treatment for captured British and Hessian soldiers, and the British surrender at Yorktown in 1781 was governed by negotiated terms rather than mass executions.
America’s record was imperfect, however, and its founding ideals coexisted with slavery and other injustices. France also possessed deep Christian roots, but revolutionaries influenced by secret societies attacked the Catholic Church, confiscated church property, and persecuted clergy during the revolution’s radical phase.
Neither revolution can be reduced to a simple contest between faith and unbelief. Yet their histories demonstrate how the pursuit of liberty can lose its moral purpose when vengeance, ideological extremism, and the dehumanization of opponents replace justice and restraint.
Schiller’s legacy reminds me that freedom must be accompanied by moral responsibility. Proverbs 14:34 (KJV) declares, “Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.”

Could America Face a Similar Crisis?
America is not France, and Europe’s unrest does not make similar upheaval inevitable here. Nevertheless, immigration disputes, economic insecurity, political polarization, and weakened public trust present serious challenges on both sides of the Atlantic.
President Donald Trump has made border security, immigration enforcement, deportations, and investigations of government fraud central priorities of his administration. His administration’s immigration policies have coincided with a sharp decline in illegal border crossings and an expansion of enforcement operations.
Supporters regard these measures as necessary to restore national sovereignty, protect taxpayers, and uphold the rule of law. Critics question aspects of enforcement, including due process and the treatment of families and communities. The challenge is whether America can address security, immigration, and fraud effectively while preserving constitutional protections and public confidence.
Jesus warned in Matthew 12:25 (KJV), “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand.”
Secure borders, accountable government, and effective institutions matter. But national strength also requires truth, justice, responsibility, and a willingness to resist the hatred that can tear a society apart.
Prophetic Insight: Could Greater Shaking Be Ahead?
Beyond the protests, could Europe face overlapping challenges involving political instability, public health, sovereign debt, banking vulnerabilities, and growing pressure on European unity?
History shows that crises can compound one another. Yet there is no established evidence that France’s unrest will produce another pandemic, trigger widespread bank failures, or cause the European Union to collapse. These are risks to evaluate responsibly, not outcomes to declare inevitable.
In the last days Jesus spoke of earthquakes, famines, and pestilences in Luke 21:11. Revelation 6 describes conflict, scarcity, and suffering, while Daniel 2 portrays the world’s great kingdoms, including the final Antichrist kingdom.
These passages invite serious reflection. Jesus instructed His followers in Mark 13:37 (KJV), “And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.”
Ezekiel 33 likewise describes a watchman who recognizes danger and sounds a warning. For Christians today, that calling should inspire discernment, preparedness, and prayer.
The message is not to panic, but to watch, pray, and remain faithful.

Billy Graham’s Message: The Hope of Spiritual Revival
